Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and Onlays are used to restore
severely broken down teeth

Inlay Restoration by Dr Yvonne King

Inlays are fillings that were traditionally made of gold, but are now often made of porcelain, ceramic or composite material. They are used to repair moderately damaged back teeth, and need to be extremely strong to withstand the grinding pressure of these teeth. Inlays are cemented into place and are contained within the cusp tips of the tooth. Special cement is used to increase the strength of the bond between the inlay and the existing tooth.

Made of the same materials as inlays, an onlay is a more extensive restoration that covers the tooth cusps. An onlay increases the strength of the tooth.
