Dento-Facial Aesthetics:
Complete Your Smile

You may have noticed when a person smiles, their whole face seems to change. In fact, when we smile, up to 43 facial muscles are activated. These muscle contractions cause the skin above them to become crinkled and folded. These are often called ‘expression lines’ or ‘laugh lines’.

There is more to a smile than just teeth. The teeth, lips and surrounding facial structures all contribute to overall facial harmony. Where appropriate, additional treatment options may be discussed as part of an individualised treatment plan following a comprehensive clinical assessment.

Wrinkle Reducing Injections

Treatment with anti-wrinkle injectables involves administering a pharmaceutical grade exotoxin into targeted muscles. Although the toxin is derived from a bacteria, the injection only contains the purified proteins, allowing for very predictable results.

The injection works by blocking neurotransmitters in the muscles, and reducing the strength of muscular contractions. The application aesthetically allows for a relaxing of facial muscles, and smoothing of the overlying skin. Beyond aesthetics, cosmetic injections can be used to treat other issues such as TMJ pain or night grinding, by relaxing these over-active muscles.

Treatment with Dermal Fillers

Treatment with a dermal fillers (known under various trade names) involves the injection of a substance similar to those naturally present in the skin. These substances are found in all living organisms, and are an essential components of skin. As we age, the levels of these naturally occuring components in our skin is depleted, resulting in a loss of volume and skin support, creating grooves, sagging and lines across the face.

Administering a dermal filler can restore volume to the skin, and smooth out the lines and grooves in the skin, creating a more youthful appearance. Dermal Fillers can also be administered into lip and gum tissue to address aesthetic concerns such as asymmetrical lips, or filling the large darkened spaces (black triangles) in between teeth or dental implants.

Non-Surgical 8-Point Facelift

A combination of anti-wrinkle injectables and dermal fillers allow Dr King to perform the non-surgical facelift. This exciting treatment has had dramatic effects for patients.

Cosmetic injections and fillers have predominantly been the domain of cosmetic beauticians and plastic surgeons, often administered under their supervision by auxiliary staff and nurses. Up until recently, Australian dental practitioners could administer these injections for issues such as muscle relaxation for grinding of teeth. As dentists are recognised for their existing knowledge and ability of injecting into facial anatomy, those trained in aesthetic and facial injections can offer a wider array of treatments to patients to address a range of aesthetic and functional concerns.

Why see a dentist for facial aesthetic treatments?
