What lifestyle habits cause teeth to wear down faster?

Teeth can wear down faster due to a combination of everyday habits and factors. Clenching or grinding (bruxism) places excessive force on teeth and may lead to flattening, cracking, or chipping over time. Acidic foods and drinks, such as soft drinks, flavoured sparkling water, citrus, and wine, can soften the tooth surface and make enamel more susceptible to wear (erosion). Brushing too aggressively or using a hard toothbrush may also gradually wear enamel and expose the softer dentine underneath, which wears more quickly. Habits such as chewing ice, biting pens, or using teeth as tools can further contribute to damage. Identifying and managing these factors early can help protect teeth long term.
