Why does my tooth feel sensitive after getting a filling?

It is quite common for a tooth to feel sensitive after a filling, particularly if the cavity was deep. The deeper the decay, the closer the filling is to the nerve inside the tooth, which can result in temporary sensitivity while the tooth settles and recovers. During treatment, the tooth is also cleaned and prepared, which may temporarily irritate the nerve. Sensitivity to cold, pressure, or biting is therefore not unusual after the procedure and often improves gradually over time. However, if the decay was very deep or close to the nerve, the sensitivity may persist longer and, in some cases, further treatment such as root canal therapy may be required. If the sensitivity does not improve within the first week, it is important to have the tooth reviewed.
